Until 1610, Nottinghamshire was divided into eight Wapentakes – Newark, Bassetlaw, Thurgarton, Rushcliffe, Broxtowe, and Bingham. The University of Nottingham in 2010 has begun the Nottingham Caves Survey to increase the tourist potential of these sites.
