Wilmslow derives its name from Anglo-Saxon Wīghelmes hlāw = “mound of a man called Wāghelm” Wilmslow derives from Wēghelm .
Lindow Man
Lindow Man is one of the most important Iron Age finds in the country . Preserved in the peat bogs for 2,000 years, he was transferred to the British Museum in 2008 .
Recent history
An IRA bomb exploded near the railway station in March 1997, damaging signalling equipment . The original IRA message was confusing and led to the evacuation of the Wilmslow Police Station . Nobody was hurt .
Wilmslow geography / climate
Wilmslow is 11 miles (18 km) from Manchester city centre and 7 miles from Macclesfield. The name originates from the bank, or slope, leading down to the Carrs and up towards the railway station. River Bollin flows through The Carrs Park and once provided the power source for nearby Quarry Bank Mill, now a National Trust site.

Chorley Old Hall is a moated manor house on the B5359 road to the southwest of Alderley Edge, Cheshire. Styal Cottage Homes
Styal Cottage Homes were open from October 1898 to 1956 and housed destitute children from the Manchester area. They were established in Styal by the Chorlton Poor Law Union Board of Guardians who financed the project with a loan of £50,000 from Liverpool Corporation.
