Manor Farm in West Challow, Oxfordshire, is Grade II listed on the English Heritage Register. It was included in Candida Lycett Green’s book The Perfect English Country House. The property was owned by many prominent people over the centuries.

Hackpen, Warren & Gramp’s Hill Downs is a 71.4-hectare (176-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Letcombe Bassett in Oxfordshire. The site is composed of three separate sloping areas of unimproved chalk downland. Eleven species of butterfly have been recorded, including chalkhill blue, brown argus and marbled white.

According to legend, Saint George slew the dragon here. A bare patch of chalk upon which no grass will grow is purported to be where the dragon’s blood spilled. It has been suggested as some sort of Iron Age ritual site associated with the nearby hill figure.
