West Harptree is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book as Herpetreu meaning ‘The military road by the wood’ from the Old English herepoep and treow. The parish was part of the hundred of Chewton and was granted by William FitzJohn to the Knights Templar in 1172.

Litton Reservoirs are two reservoirs near the village of Litton, Somerset. They lie on the boundary between Bath and North East Somerset and Mendip districts.
