Wangford, West Suffolk history
Palaeolithic tools such as handaxes, arrowheads and flint scrapers have been found in Wangford Heath. A hoard of 3000 silver and bronze coins, dating from the reign of the Roman Emperor Gallienus (AD 253-68), was discovered in a jar. A Saxon inhumation burial has also been discovered in the parish. The western edge of the parish was part of the site of RAF Lakenheath during the Second World War.

Lakenheath Warren
Lakenheath Warren is a 588.3 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Suffolk. It is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade I, and part of Breckland Special Area of Conservation. The site has a history of use for sheep grazing and as a rabbit warren from the thirteenth century, and continuing until the Second World War.
