The name Walberswick is believed to derive from the Saxon Waldbert – probably a landowner – and “wyc” meaning shelter or harbour. At the top of the village is the 15th-century St Andrew’s Church, which has been reduced in size since its medieval heyday.

The ornate metalwork village sign on the Green is a replica of the one erected in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The original sign went missing in the 1980s but after changing hands has since been returned and restored to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve is a wildlife reserve on the North Sea coast of Suffolk. It is located around the village of Walberswick to the south of the town of Southwold. The reserve is managed by Natural England in conjunction with the RSPB and Suffolk Wildlife Trust.

Hen Reedbeds Hen Reedbeds is a 55 hectare nature reserve near the North Sea coast of Suffolk. The reserve was created in 1999 from an area of degraded grassland adjacent to the A1095 road. It is an important site for bitterns and marsh harriers within the UK.
