There is evidence of settlements in the Rhondda dating back to Celtic times. In 1841 there were only 218 people residing in the ‘Middle hamlet of Treherbert’, which had risen to 1,203 by 1861. In August 1845, the trustees of the Marquess of Bute bought the Cwmsaerbren farm from William Davies for a fee of £11,000. A trial pit was sunk from 1850, but progress was slow because all equipment was carried over rough tracks by horse and cart from the Taff Vale Railway’s then terminus at Dinas.

Parc and Dare Hall The Parc and Dare Hall, now known as the Park and Dare Theatre, is a former Miners’ institute. It is a Grade II* listed building in the village of Treorchy, in the Rhondda Valley of Wales.

Noddfa, Treorchy Welsh Baptist Chapel was located in Treorchy in the Rhondda Valley. It was one of the largest and grandest of all Welsh chapels.

Lluest-wen Reservoir Lluest-wen Reservoir is a reservoir at the top of the Rhondda Fach Valley (Welsh) It is located in Rhondada Cynon Taf, South Wales. The reservoir gained national attention in 1969 when significant damage was discovered that led to the evacuation of nearby homes.
