Torwood was a large forested area in the 12th century stretching from the River Carron west and north towards Stirling, and inland towards the Campsie Hills. In preparation for the Battle of Bannockburn it was used as the encampment for the men of Sir James Douglas, one of the leaders of the army of King Robert the Bruce.

Royal Scottish National Hospital The Royal Scottish National Hospital was a psychiatric institution situated in Larbert, Falkirk, Scotland. It was first founded as the Scottish National Institution for the Education of Imbecile Children in 1862.

Torwood Castle Torwood Castle is a ruined 16th-century L-plan castle near the village of Torwood. It was designated as a Category A listed building in 1979. Plean Castle Plean Tower, also known as Cock-a-bendy Castle, Mengie Castle, Menzies Castle and Plane Castle, is located around 1 mile (1.6 km) from Plean, in central Scotland. It comprises a small oblong tower house probably dating from the 15th century, and an adjoining 16th-century manor house.
