Thurlaston was declared as “Turchilestone” in the 1086 “Domesday Book” It was under the ownership of the Vicount of Leicester ‘ Robert de Bucy from Hugh de Grandmesnil’ It was later recorded in 1270 under the control of Robert de Champaine, who controlled the land under the pretence of a Knight’s fee allocated to him by the King. Census data extends the population back to 1881, with a population of 533. The population remained stable with little fluctuation until a decline to 378 during the 1961 census.
