The name “Theydon” is thought to mean ‘valley where thatch (material) grows’ The word “Mount” derives from the hill on which it is located. The name Thoydon Mount has also been used.

Hill Hall was built in 1557–1558 for Sir Thomas Smith. The house was occupied in the 1930s by Lord Edward Hay. Theydon Mount has a church called St Michael which was completed in 1614 by Sir William Smith.

Stapleford Aerodrome Stapleford Aerodrome (ICAO: EGSG) is an operational general aviation aerodrome in the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. It is about 3.4 nautical miles (6.3 km; 3.9 mi) south of North Weald Airfield. The airfield is just within the M25, close to the junction with the M11.

Hill Hall (Essex) Hill Hall is an Elizabethan mansion located in Theydon Mount near Epping, Essex. It has some of the earliest classical decoration on any surviving building in Britain. The 1969 fire destroyed most of the interiors but not a series of wall paintings on the first floor.
