Stoke Rochford history
Stoke Rochford church was originally dedicated to St Mary. The village was originally called South Stoke until the expansion of the park in 1843. North and South Stoke belonged to the historical wapentake of Winnibriggs and Threo.
Hall
Stoke Rochford Hall, designed by William Burn and built in 1845, was gutted by fire on 25 January 2005. It is now the NUT’s national training centre, as well as a hotel and a venue for conferences and wedding receptions.
Lost villages
North Stoke (Nortstoches) is mentioned in the Domesday survey as a possession of Earl Morcar. It survived until the 19th century, when it was cleared for the creation of the current park. The remains of a Saxon cross from the old church are in Stoke Rochford Church.

For administrative purposes the parish is combined with Easton, which also has a country estate. The southern boundary of the parish follows the road, east–west, that crosses the A1. The parish extends westwards to the Leicestershire boundary and the north edge of Saltby Airfield.

Woolsthorpe Manor
Sir Isaac Newton was born in Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, near Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, on 25 December 1642. At that time it was a yeoman’s farmstead, principally rearing sheep. New areas of the house, once private, were opened up to the public in 2003.
Ponton Heath Barrow Cemetery
The Ponton Heath Barrow Cemetery is a group of at least eleven Middle Bronze Age round barrows south of Grantham. Five of the barrows were destroyed by ironstone quarrying in 1959; the remaining six are scheduled monuments. The sites have been placed on the Heritage at Risk Register.
Ellys Manor House
Ellys Manor House (pronounced “Ellis”), or the Old Rectory is a late-fifteenth to early sixteenth century manor house in Great Ponton, Lincolnshire. It was built by Anthony Ellys (or Ellis), a wool merchant, and member of the Staple of Calais, who also built the tower of the village church. The house was restored as a Rectory by the Grantham architect Wilfred Bond.
