There is evidence of Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements, but the village history is considered to start from the arrival of the Welsh missionary St Mawgan (or Meugan) and his followers in the 6th century. The Arundell family “of Lanherne” have been the chief landowners in the village since the 13th century. It was a branch of the prominent and widespread family also seated at Trerice, Tolverne, Menadarva and Wardour Castle in Wiltshire.

RAF St Eval RAF St. Eval was a Royal Air Force station for the RAF Coastal Command, southwest of Padstow in Cornwall, UK. Its primary role was to provide anti-submarine and anti-shipping patrols off the south west coast.
