South Kirkby history
The town was first mentioned 1086 in the Domesday Book, and South Kirkby retains the site of the original Saxon settlement. For many centuries, they were both simply farming villages until the start of the industrial revolution. In 1881, with the foundation of the South. Moorthorpe railway station
Moorthorpe railway station was opened in May 1879, jointly by the Midland Railway and North Eastern Railway. It lies on the Wakefield Line and the Dearne Valley Line, 18+1/4 miles (29.4 km) north of Sheffield.
