Horton Kirby mill was originally built in 1820 by Henry Hall. The mill was at first a flour mill, which employed a handful of local people. Some years later the site was expanded and converted into a paper mill which took up a much larger area. South of the village is the Chatham Main Line, which runs between London and East Kent.
