During the English Civil War the village itself did not exist: being an area of open land east of the route between Reading and Oxford, which was the King’s headquarters. In 1647 after the end of the first civil war, the King was imprisoned at nearby Caversham House. He was allowed out under escort to play bowls at an inn near Cane End, approximately one mile west of Sonning Common.

Kidmore House Kidmore House is a Grade II* listed stately home in the village of Kidmore End, in Oxfordshire, England. It was built in 1680 and is described by Historic England as being “Late C17. Flint base; grey brick with red brick dressings; plain tile roof; brick stacks”

Wyfold Court Wyfold Court is a Grade II* listed building at Rotherfield Peppard in south Oxfordshire. Estate had been converted into apartments by the year 2000.

Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge is a coeducational secondary school located in Sonning Common, Oxfordshire. Previously a community school and Language College administered by Oxfordshire County Council, it converted to academy status in August 2018.
