Somerleyton history


Somerleyton was named Sumerledetuna in the Domesday Book and was recorded as having 17 families living in the village. The manor was owned by the Jernegan family from the early 14th-century. The Hall and the park and gardens are Grade II* listed buildings. In the 1950s Christopher Cockerell designed and tested the first hovercraft at his boatyard.
