Ruxley history
Ruxley was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, as a settlement of 20 households, with woodland, pigs and a mill. Malgerius de Rokesle possessed the lands at the time of the 1086. Gregory de Rokeley, a wealthy wool merchant and goldsmith from Rixley, moved to London and later served as the Sheriff of London, Lord Chamberlain and Lord Mayor.

Foots Cray Place Foots Cray Place was one of the four country houses built in England in the 18th century to a design inspired by Palladio’s Villa Capra near Vicenza . Built in 1754 near Sidcup, Kent, it was demolished in 1950 after a fire in 1949 .
Foots Cray Meadows Foots Cray Meadows is 97 hectares (240 acres) in size within the London Borough of Bexley . It borders the suburbs of Albany Park, Sidcup, North Cray and Ruxley . The River Cray runs through it in a north-easterly direction .
Kemnal Park Cemetery & Memorial Gardens Kemnal Park Cemetery & Memorial Gardens was opened in October 2013 by the Mayor of Bromley, Cllr Ernest Noad . It comprises 55 acres in total and has 30,000 burial plots . The cemetery is also listed as a ‘site of special interest’ due to its ancient woodland and diverse bird life .

The main road that runs through Ruxley is named Maidstone Road, today it is the B2173 road running east to west . To the east, it goes uphill through Upper Ruxleys, Birchwood Corner and changes its name to High Street then London Road . Further west it’s named Main Road and Foots Cray Road and reaches Eltham . It was historically the route of the original A20, the main route from London to Maidstone .
Buses
Four London Bus routes serve Ruxley, three pass through, one terminates there . The 321 bus, which has been running since 1997, has been a 24-hour bus since 2009 . The 492 bus, operated by Arriva London for Transport for London, travels east through Sidcup, Foots Cray, Sidcup and New Eltham . The 51 bus travels from Woolwich, through Plumstead, Welling, Blackfen, and Sidcup .
