Medieval
Rushton, from Old English, means a settlement by rushes. The area was a single manor at the time of the Norman Conquest. The overlordship was held by the Earls of Chester probably by the late 11th century. The name Rushton James was probably acquired from a tenant there.
Railway
North Staffordshire Railway company’s railway line between Leek and Macclesfield opened in 1849; it ran near the village of Rushton. Rushton railway station was closed for passengers in 1960 and for freight soon afterwards.

The Cloud (Peak District)
The Cloud or Bosley Cloud is a prominent hill on the border between Cheshire and Staffordshire. At 343 metres (1,125 ft) in height, it is one of the highest hills in the area. Its summit plateau is crowned by a trig point from which there are extensive views over the Greater Manchester area.

The Bridestones
The Bridestones is a chambered cairn, near Congleton, Cheshire, England, that was constructed in the Neolithic period about 3500–2400 BC. It was described in 1764 as being 120 yards (110 m) long and 12 yards (11 m) wide, containing three separate compartments, of which only one remains today. The remaining compartment consists of vertical stone slabs, divided by a now-broken cross slab.
