Portbury first appears in written history in the Domesday Book in the Hundred of Portbury, a sub-division of the shire of Somerset. It was given by William the Conqueror to Bishop Geoffrey de Mowbray of Coutances – the “battling bishop” – sword in one hand and crook in the other. The manor had previously been held by the Godwin family, who were the most powerful family in the country.

Lamplighters Marsh Lamplighters Marsh (grid reference ST524764) is a public open space and local nature reserve near Shirehampton in Bristol. It is a narrow strip of land between the railway line which connects Bristol to Avonmouth, and the River Avon.

Church of St George, Easton in Gordano The Anglican Church of St George in Easton in Gordano in the English county of Somerset is a Grade II* listed building. The church is located in the area of Gordano, Gordano and Easton.

Wraxall Camp Wraxall Camp, or Failand Camp, is a small round earthwork in Somerset. The remains are indistinct and thickly covered by woods, but it appears to have been an Iron Age farmstead.

Portishead Town F.C. Portishead Town Football Club were founded in 1912. The men’s first team are currently members of the Western League Division One. The Ladies first team play in the South West Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division.

Clapton Court Clapton Court is a Grade II listed building in Gordano within the English county of Somerset. Local lords of the manor, the Arthur family originally built on the site. It has been owned by many local gentry, but changed from mansion house to farmhouse.

Wraxall Court Parts of the original 1658 building were incorporated into the current building when it was erected around 1720. The house was extended in the 19th century by Thomas Upton. During World War II the house was used as a convalescent home by the Admiralty.
