Pelsall history

Pelsall was first mentioned in a charter of 994, when it was among various lands given to the monastery at Heantune (Wolverhampton) by Wulfrun, a Mercian noblewoman. At this time it was called Peolshalh, meaning ‘a nook’ or ‘land between two streams belonging to Peol’ The medieval population was small and a return of 1563 lists only 14 householders. The cutting of the canal in about 1794 opened up the area for industrialisation.

Pelsall Carnival takes place in July each year, featuring decorated floats and bric-a-brac stalls. The Fingerpost, at the junction of B4154 Norton Road and A4124 Lichfield Road, is an unusual and possibly unique design, being substantially restored in the 1980s by Bert Kellitt for the local Civic Society.

Harden, Walsall Harden is an area to the north of Walsall and borders with Bloxwich, Blakenall Heath, Coalpool, Goscote and Rushall. The whole area was part of the industrial revolution, with mining and metal processing being the main industries.

Rushall Olympic F.C. Rushall Olympic Football Club is based in Rushall, a former mining village now forming part of the northern suburbs of Walsall. The team plays in the Southern League Premier Division Central.

Rushall, West Midlands Rushall is a large village in the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, West Midlands, England. It was mostly developed after 1920 and served by Rushall (West Midlands) railway station until the 1960s.

Little Wyrley Little Wyrley is part of Norton Canes civil parish and Cannock Chase district. In 1870-72 it had a population of 61 as recorded in the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales. It borders the village of Landywood to the west (the Southern area of the larger village of Great Wyrley)

Forest of Mercia The Forest of Mercia lies within the northernmost boundary of the more ancient and well-known Forest of Arden. It covers an area of 92 square miles (23,000 hectares) and is focused around the town of Cannock in South Staffordshire.
