The original ancient village of Nottage was sited on a small hill near an inlet leading to the sea. The location is speculated to have been chosen to reduce the risks of attacks by Vikings. Nottage became the site of some of the earliest Nonconformist activity in Wales.

Sker House Sker House was built as a monastic grange of the Cistercian order over 900 years ago. Little remains of the original structure and it was completely rebuilt in the late sixteenth century. It was made famous as the basis of R. D. Blackmore’s book The Maid of Sker.
