North Scale history
North Scale was first identified as an agricultural settlement owned by Furness Abbey in 1247. As a Parliamentarian stronghold in the English Civil War it was briefly sieged by Royalists. In 1865, the Crown Inn opened in North Scale.

Thorncliffe Cemetery and Crematorium Thorncliffe Cemetery and Crematorium is a 66-acre graveyard in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. The cemetery opened in 1872 and a crematorium was added to the site in 1962. 189 identified war casualties are buried there.
