The district was historically part of the Manor of Nuthurst, lying within the historic township of Moston. The name ‘New Moston’ originates from 1850 when ‘The Manchester Bridgewater Freehold Land Society’ was formed by Elijah Dixon and his colleagues.

Tonge Hall Tonge Hall is a Grade II* listed Elizabethan manor house in Tonge, Middleton, Greater Manchester. It was built in the 17th century and is now in the Middleton area of Middleton.

Royd Mill, Oldham Royd Mill, Oldham was built in 1907 and extended in 1912 and 1924. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930s and passed to Courtaulds in 1964. The mill was demolished in 2015 to make way for a housing scheme.
Clayton Hall Clayton Hall is a 15th-century manor house on Ashton New Road, in Clayton, Manchester. It is a Grade II* listed building, the mound on which it is built is a scheduled ancient monument, and a rare example of a medieval moated site.
