Church of St Edmund, Sedgefield
The Church of St Edmund is a Church of England parish church in Sedgefield, County Durham. The church is a grade I listed building and dates from the 13th century.
The Manor House, Sedgefield
Manor House in Sedgefield, County Durham was built in 1707 on high ground in a country setting looking on to St. Edmund’s Church. It is a rare example of Queen Anne style architecture in an area as far north as the north of Durham. The house was acquired by John Burdon of nearby Hardwick Estate in 1756.
Sedgefield (borough)
Sedgefield District was, from 1974 to 2009, a local government district and (from 1996), borough in County Durham, in North East England. It had a population of about 87,000 (2001 UK census) Its largest town was Newton Aycliffe, but its other places included Shildon, Ferryhill and Spennymoor. Most of the district was represented in parliament by Tony Blair, who became Leader of the Labour Party in 1994 and Prime Minister in 1997.
Hardwick Hall Hotel, Sedgefield
Hardwick Hall in Sedgefield, County Durham is listed on the English Heritage Register. A major part of it was built in the late 1700s but it is possible that some of it dates from about 1634. It was the residence for many notable people for two centuries. It is now a hotel which provides accommodation and restaurant services.
