Clifton Moor Skirmish The Clifton Moor Skirmish took place during the Jacobite rising of 1745. The Jacobite army split into three smaller columns after deciding to retreat from Derby. A small force of dragoons led by Cumberland and Sir Philip Honywood made contact with the rearguard. Lord George Murray ordered his baggage train to continue its retreat towards Penrith while he delayed Cumberland’s force.

River Lowther The River Lowther is a small river which flows through limestone rock in Cumbria. It is a tributary of the River Eamont which flows into the River Eden. The river is held back by the Wet Sleddale dam, and flows at a fairly consistent level for 90% of monitoring time.

Whinfell Forest Whinfell Forest is a small area of woodland in the parish of Brougham, Cumbria, south east of Penrith. The forest is a short distance from the Lake District national park. It is notable today for the presence of Center Parcs and a red squirrel reserve.
