Meifod is about a mile north-east of the royal residence of the Princes of Wales at Mathrafal. It was an early Christian centre known at Caer Meguaidd or Meguaid. It is sometimes identified as the Mediolanum among the Ordovices described in Ptolemy’s Geography.
