Markfield is shown in the Domesday Book published in 1070 as having 2 small households. Ulf is shown as the lord of Markfield, Groby Blaby and Ratby in the hundred of Guthlaxton in 1066.

Newtown Linford Newtown Linford is a linear village in Leicestershire, England. It is located in a valley in the Charnwood Forest area. The population of the civil parish was 1,000 at the 2001 census, including Ulverscroft and increasing to 1,103 at the 2011 census.

Markfield Institute of Higher Education The Markfield Institute of Higher Education is an educational institution based in Leicestershire, in the United Kingdom. The institute was established in 2000 and inaugurated by the Prince of Wales. The fees are £4,500 a year for UK and EU students and £7,500 for international students.

Cliffe Hill Mineral Railway The Cliffe Hill Mineral Railway was a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge industrial railway. The line opened in 1896 and operated until 1948.

Ulverscroft Valley Ulverscroft Valley is a 110.8 hectares (274 acres) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. The site is in five separate blocks, and two areas are nature reserves managed by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust. Lea Meadows is owned by the LRWT and it is also a scheduled monument.

Stoneywell Stoneywell is a National Trust property in Ulverscroft, a dispersed settlement near Coalville in Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire. It was built in collaboration with Detmar Blow in 1899 for Ernest’s brother Sydney Gimson as a summer residence.
