A settlement of twelve households and an estate held by Miles Crispin were recorded at Manetone in the 1087 Domesday Book. In the 17th century the estate came into the ownership of the earls and marquesses of Ailesbury. Manton was a tithing of Preshute parish until 1934, when it was transferred to Marlborough civil parish.

St Mary’s Church, Marlborough St Mary’s Church is the Church of England parish church in the town of Marlborough, Wiltshire. Founded in the 12th century, it was partly rebuilt after a fire of 1653, and extended in 1874.

Marlborough Castle Marlborough Castle was an 11th-century royal castle in Wiltshire. It was located on the Old Bath Road, the old main road from London to Bath. It survives as a tree-covered mound within the site of Marlboro College.
