Early settlement

The village of Llansaint developed around a cemetery in the 5th and 6th centuries. The holy well of Ffynnonsaint indicates an early Christian settlement. The church was built in the 12th century, and a tower was added in the 14th century.

Llansaint

Up until the 17th century Llansaint was known as Halkenchurche meaning church of the saints. Pengay Farm was the seat of Bevan family, prominent supporters of Methodism. The arched gateway contains a 1760 bell from a wrecked Dutch ship. In 1896 the “Silver band”, who won national competitions, was well respected in the community.

Cockle harvesting

Cockles were harvested for centuries by women to supplement their families’ income. Once the cockles were gathered and bagged, they were transported on donkeys to the Ferryside railway station. The arduous work was in addition to the care they gave their families and home.

Llansteffan Llansteffan, is a village and community situated on the south coast of Carmarthenshire, Wales, lying on the estuary of the River Tywi. The population of the community was 941 in 2011 which includes the village population of 424. The community includes Llanybri and is bordered by the communities of Laugharne Township, Llangynog; Llangain; St Ishmael; Pembrey and Burry Port Town.

Ferryside television relay station The Ferryside relay is fed with the off-air signal from Preseli about 17 miles (28 km) to the northwest. It is one of the few UK broadcasting transmitters using a wooden pole as aerial tower.

Kidwelly Priory Kidwelly Priory was a daughter abbey of Sherborne Abbey. It was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1539. Today the abbey remains a parish church.

Kidwelly Town Council Kidwelly Town Council (Welsh: Cyngor Tref Tref Cydweli) is the town council serving the town and village of Mynydd-y-Garreg in the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales.

Iscoed Iscoed, Ferryside, Carmarthenshire, Wales is a ruined eighteenth century mansion attributed to the architect Anthony Keck. Constructed for Sir William Mansel in 1772, it was purchased by the Napoleonic general Sir Thomas Picton as an incomplete shell in 1812.
