The family’s iron interests were begun by John Levett of Little Horsted. On his early death, his share of the family’s interests in the Weald went to his brother, an Oxford-trained rector in Buxted. William became the leading armaments supplier to the King.

Uckfield Baptist Church
Uckfield Baptist Church was founded in 1785 by seceders from the nearby Five Ash Down Independent Chapel. The church had its own chapel from 1789 until 2005, when the building closed and was sold for residential conversion. The “simple brick chapel” was rebuilt in 1874 and has been listed at Grade II.
Horsted Place
Horsted Place is a Tudor Revival country house in Little Horsted, East Sussex. The current building dates to 1850, when it was built by Samuel Daukes/George Myers for Francis Barchard. It is described as “a masterpiece of ornate Victorian Gothic”
