Latton village lies near Ermin Street, the Roman road which ran southeast–northwest from Silchester to Cirencester and Gloucester. The Domesday Book of 1068 recorded a settlement of some 20 households at Latone, with two mills. Land at Latton and “Esi” was held by Reinbald, as recorded in a 1067 writ of William I. Land on the town’s side of the road was transferred to Cricklade parish in 1984.

Eysey

In the Middle Ages there were settlements at Eisey and Water Eaton, which have dwindled to farms. In 1819 a united parish of Latton with Eisey was created. There had been a dependant chapel at Water Eaton dedicated to St Laurence.

St Sampson’s Church, Cricklade St Sampson’s is the Church of England parish church of Cricklade, Wiltshire. The present building dates from the late 12th century but has fragments of Anglo-Saxon work. The dedication is to Saint Samson of Dol, born in Wales in the late 5th century.

Down Ampney Down Ampney (pronounced Amney) is a medium-sized village located in Cotswold district in Gloucestershire. The population taken at the 2011 census was 644. It is off the A417 which runs between Cirencester and Faringdon (in Oxfordshire) on the A420.
