Lanark history
Lanark has served as an important market town since medieval times. King David I made it a Royal Burgh in 1140, giving it mercantile privileges relating to government and taxation. Lanark had four town gates, West Port, East port, Wellgate and Castlegate. First aviation meeting to be held in Scotland was held at Lanark Racecourse between 6 and 13 August 1910.

Corehouse is a country house and estate located 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) to the south of Lanark, Scotland. The estate is by the Corra Linn Falls on the River Clyde, and close to the World Heritage Site of New Lanark.

New Lanark is a village 1.4 miles (2.2 km) from Lanark, in Lanarkshire, and some 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Glasgow, Scotland. It was founded in 1786 by David Dale, who built cotton mills and housing for mill workers. It is one of six UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Scotland.
Hyndford Quarry
Hyndford Quarry is an aggregates quarry in Lanark, South Lanarkshire operated by Cemex UK. It takes its name from the nearby village of Hyandford and has an entry on the register of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland.
Lee Castle, South Lanarkshire
Lee Castle, also known as The Lee, is a castellated mansion in Auchenglen, a branch of the Clyde Valley in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Lee was the seat of the Lockharts of Lee from its establishment in the 13th century until 1919. The present house is the result of rebuilding in the 19th century.
Lindsay Institute
The Lindsay Institute is a Category B listed building in Lanark, Scotland. It was opened by Sheriff Scott Moncrieff on 25 June 1914 with a free reading room, library and museum. The building is still in use today and houses the Lanark Library.
Winston Barracks
Winston Barracks was a British Army base, located 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Lanark, Scotland. It was situated in the fork of the A73 and A70 trunk roads, close to Lanark Racecourse. Some of the buildings have been renovated as part of a housing development.
