Kingston was part of the Taunton Deane Hundred and was ceded to the Bishop of Winchester. The church’s dedication was added to the village in the 20th century. The name of the village comes from the kings of the West Saxons.

The manor house on Lodes Lane dates from around 1560 and Tetton House dates from 1790 and was enlarged and mainly rebuilt in 1924-6 by Harry Stuart Goodhart-Rendel.
