Hindon, Wiltshire history
Hindon is a planned settlement, unlike most English villages which have evolved piecemeal over the millennia. The main period of building was between 1218 and 1220 and even today, the medieval settlement pattern can be seen. By c.1250 there were some 150 houses in the village, with 77 poll-tax payers in 1377. Hindon became a parliamentary borough in the later Middle Ages, and continued to return two members until it was disenfranchised in 1832.

Clouds House
Designed by Philip Webb for Percy Wyndham and his wife Madeline, it was first completed in 1886. It became a centre of social activity for the intellectual group known as The Souls. Since 1983 the house has been a treatment centre for drug dependence and alcohol dependence.

The three bay nave is 33 feet 6 inches (10.21 m) by 16 feet 4 inches (4.98 m), while the chancel is just 18 feet 9 inches (5.72 m) long. The tower holds two bells dating from 1725 and 1766.
