Hill Mountain history


Hill Mountain existed as a settlement in the 19th century but there were fewer than ten properties. A pub, The Star, is marked on an early 20th century map but no longer exists.

Hearson Camp

To the south of Hill Mountain Hearson Camp was established in 1914 for 1st Battalion, Welsh Regiment’s training. The area was later returned to farmland and was later used as farmland. Dyfed Archaeological Trust carried out a scoping study of the site in 2014.

Pembroke Dock Military Cemetery is the only dedicated military cemetery in Wales. It is believed to have opened around 1860, the date on its earliest graves. Forty Commonwealth service personnel who participated in the First World War and 33 from the Second World War are buried here. The most recent burial was in 1955.
