Heapey derives from the Old English heope a rose, or heap a hill and hege a hedge meaning a rose hedge or hedge on the hill. Roman coins were discovered in 1835 near the site of ancient earthworks. The area was part of Gunolfsmoors an area claimed by a Viking in the 10th century.

Heapey geography / climate

The ancient township covered 1,464 acres on hilly ground including 200 acres of moorland. The Heapey reservoirs are upstream of Anglezarke reservoir starting behind White Coppice cricket club. They feed Black Brook, a tributary of the River Yarrow.

Municipal Borough of Chorley The Municipal Borough of Chorley was a local government district in the administrative county of Lancashire. It was coterminated with the town of Chorley.

Chorley Interchange Chorley Interchange was opened in February 2003 and cost £3 million. The current station is adjacent to the demolished railway station, which replaced the demolished structure in 2003. It is owned by Lancashire County Council and operated by Stagecoach.
