Roman
Excavations on Leech Lane, off Hill End towards Cullingworth have suggested Roman settlement in the area from c.150 AD. Archaeologists have, in the past unearthed pottery, coins and even Elephant-Ivory on this site.
Industrial
Ellison Circlips was the biggest employer between 1960 and 1997. Ellison’s Mill caught fire in the computer room and the resultant blaze gutted the timber floored mill. At least two other mills were in operation in Harden, both situated alongside Harden Beck.

Woodbank played host to some of the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Many of the stained glass works around Bingley, Bradford and Silsden were designed by Burne-Jones.

Oakwood Hall
Oakwood Hall, Bingley, West Yorkshire is a 19th-century mansion with substantial interior fittings by the Victorian architect William Burges. The hall was constructed in 1864 by Knowles and Wilcox of Bradford for Thomas Garnett, a prosperous textile merchant. Garnett had the interiors designed by Burges, who contributed a fireplace, and by Morris & Co. Edward Burne-Jones created the stained glass St. George in the staircase window.
