Freshford, Somerset history
Freshford was part of the hundred of Bath Forum during the Norman Conquest. A mill existed here as early as 1086 and there are still remains of one built in the 1540s. The importance of weaving can be seen at the now derelict site of Freshford Mill, and the numerous weavers’ cottages in the village.
Titfield Thunderbolt
Freshford village served as the set for the Ealing comedy The Titfield Thunderbolt. The railway scenes were filmed on the Camerton branch line of the Bristol and North Somerset Railway. The cricket scene was filmed near the former Viaduct Hotel at Limpley Stoke.

Freshford Mill site comprises a mixture of buildings the oldest of which, the mill owner’s house, dates back to the 17th century. The site was used until 1993 by Peradins for the manufacture of rubber components for the car industry. Since the firm relocated to their new premises in Trowbridge the site has been essentially empty.

Gripwood Quarry
Gripwood Quarry (grid reference ST822603) is a 2.9 hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Wiltshire. The quarry is of Oolitic limestone and has a wall in the middle creating an upper and a lower quarry, last used for mushroom growing.
Farleigh House
Farleigh House, or Farleigh Castle, is a large English country house in Somerset. It was built and extended during the 18th and 19th centuries and until 1970 served as the centre of a country estate owned by the Houlton family. In 1970 it was sold to be used as a prep school called Ravenscroft School. After this closed in 1996, the house was leased from the last owners of the school by the new Farleigh College until 2001. Bath Rugby Club now occupies it as its headquarters and training centre.
