Fremington, Devon history
Fremington hundred was one of the 32 historic hundreds of Devon. It was briefly a borough that sent members to Parliament in the reign of Edward III.
Railway
The Tarka Trail cycle track (also part of the South West Coast Path) passes over Fremington Pill via the old London and South Western Railway iron bridge. The original railway was first planned in an Act of Parliament in 1838, and laid in 1846 connecting the Penhill with Barnstaple at a cost of £20 000. A number of boats are moored here.
Army Camp
Fremington Army Camp was used by the US Army’s 313th Station Hospital for post-D-Day rehabilitation, with room for 2,000 patients. The camp was closed in autumn 2009 and between the years of 2015 and 2020 was redeveloped into Riverside Park and Water’s Edge estates.

St Peter’s Church
The parish church St Peter’s was subject to a Victorian restoration in 1867 to the designs of the leading architect Sir George Gilbert Scott. The stone pulpit was buried during the Reformation and retains traces of its original colour.
Fremington House
Fremington House was built by Richard II Acland (1679–1729), MP for Barnstaple 1708–13. It was re-modelled in the 19th century by his eventual heirs the Arundell-Yeo family. It is now a retirement home.

Fremington has two public houses, The Fox and The New Inn. Little Bridge House in the village is a children’s hospice run by Children’s Hospice South West.

Pottington Road Ground
The Pottington Road Ground is a rugby union ground and former greyhound racing stadium in Barnstaple, North Devon. It is also known as the North Devon Greyhound Stadium.

The Braunton Road railway accident occurred on 1 January 1910 in England. The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway maintained an exemplary safety record throughout its short existence from 1898 to 1935. No passenger or member of the public was ever injured or killed.

Fremington Army Camp was a military camp in the village of Fremington, Devon, England, which was used as a base to train the U.S. Army Air Corps. It was originally located there to be within easy marching distance from the railway station.
Church of St Peter, Fremington
The Church of St Peter is the Anglican parish church for Fremington, now a suburb of Barnstaple. There has been a church on the site since at least 1268 with the present structure mostly dating to the 13th and 15th-centuries. The church comes under the Diocese of Exeter and has been Grade II* listed since 1965.
RAF Chivenor
RAF Chivenor is located on the northern shore of the River Taw estuary, on the north coast of Devon. The nearest towns are Barnstaple and Braunton. Originally a civil airfield opened in the 1930s, the site was taken over by the Royal Air Force in May 1940 for use as a Coastal Command Station. After World War II, the station was largely used for training, particularly weapons training. No. 22 Squadron RAF operated a Search and Rescue flight from 1956, flying Westland Whirlwind and Westland Sea King Helicopters.
Yelland
Yelland is a village of 2,000 inhabitants situated in North Devon. It is situated between Instow and Fremington in the English county of Devon.
Instow
Instow is on the estuary where the rivers Taw and Torridge meet. It is between Westleigh and Yelland and on the opposite bank of Appledore. There is a small river beach and sand dunes, that home some rare species of orchid including the pyramid orchid.
