Folkingham history


A castle was built in the 12th century by Gilbert de Gant, Earl of Lincoln and enlarged by Henry Beaumont in the 14th century. The last documentary record of occupation of this castle dates from 1372. In 1940 RAF Folkingham, to the south-west of the village, began use as a Second World War airfield.
