Before the Norman conquest of England, the manor of Falmer was held by Wilton Abbey. After the conquest most of it appears to have been given to Gundred, wife of William de Warenne, 1st Earl of Surrey. The village lends its name to the University of Sussex’s alumni magazine. Due to the proximity of the city of Brighton and Hove, the parish has been substantially affected by the development of its neighbour.

Hollingbury Castle Hollingbury Castle is an Iron Age hillfort on the northern edge of Brighton, in East Sussex. It is a scheduled monument and is adjacent to a golf course.

Stanmer Park Stanmer Park is a large public park immediately to the west of the University of Sussex, and to the north-east of the city of Brighton in the county of East Sussex, England, UK. The eighteenth century park contains the Grade I listed Stanmer House and 25 Grade II listed buildings and structures. A major restoration project is underway funded through the National Lottery.

Stanmer Church Stanmer Church is a former Anglican church in Stanmer village, on the northeastern edge of the English city of Brighton and Hove. The ancient village stands within Stanmer Park, the former private estate of the Earl of Chichester. The church was declared redundant in 2008 and listed at Grade II by English Heritage for its architectural and historical importance.

Clayton to Offham Escarpment Clayton to Offham Escarpment is a 422.5-hectare (1,044-acre) linear biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. It runs from Clayton in West Sussex to Lewes in East Sussex. Ownership and management is divided between over fifteen landowners and farmers.

Ashcombe Bottom Ashcombe Bottom (grid reference TQ 3735 1190) is a woodland valley owned by the National Trust that runs south from Blackcap. The name Ashcombe refers to a Saxon named Aecci, not ash trees as one might assume. The area is species-rich and at least twenty-eight scrub species have been found there.
