Both the 1895 and 1969 OS maps indicate East Anton was a small, rural hamlet, made up of two farms; “East Anton Farm” and “Little East Anton Farm”. East Anton remained isolated until the latter end of the 20th century with the rapid growth of Andover (as an overspill town) and the housing developments in the areas of Kingsway Gardens and Roman Way. The land surrounding East Anton has been declared a “Major Development Area” with proposals for 2,500 houses, including 40% affordable housing.

Dead Man’s Plack is a Grade-II listed 19th-century monument to Æthelwald, Ealdorman of East Anglia, who, according to legend, was killed in 963 near the site where it stands by his rival in love, King Edgar I. Monument was erected in 1825 at Harewood Forest, between the villages of Picket Twenty and Longparish, Hampshire, by Lt Col. William Iremonger.
