Bedford’s workhouse was established in the area in the 18th century. The west and central parts of De Parys were urbanised by the end of the 19th century, and Bedford Park was established. The Bedford Training College for Teachers (later, Bedford College of Education) was established on Polhill Avenue in 1882. Bedford was an official training site for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, and was a main hub for other training sites in the Bedford area.

Statue of John Bunyan, Bedford The statue was sculpted by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm and unveiled in 1874. It was commissioned by the Ninth Duke of Bedford and presented by him to Bedford town.

Bedford Cauldwell Walk depot Bedford Cauldwell Walk depot is a maintenance depot on the Midland Main Line. A four road maintenance depot opened in 2004 to service trains, and was extended to a fifth road in 2009. The depot maintenance facility is currently mothballed. It is still in use for 12 car sidings for Class 700 rolling stock.

Heart Bedford Heart Bedford (formerly Chiltern Radio 96.9) was an Independent Local Radio station. It was based in the Priory Business Park in Bedfordshire.

Risinghoe Castle Risinghoe Castle is a 20-foot mound, located in the former village of Goldington, a parish in the hundred of Barford, in the county of Bedfordshire. The mound is located on the north side of the River Ouse, three miles east of Bedford Castle and a mile west of Renhold Castle.
