Davenport is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as having 3 small holders, 2 other people, and 1 rider, it was the land of Gilbert de Venables who was the first baron of Kinderton. The name arose from the building of a railway station at the behest of the Davenports family who owned nearby Bramall Hall in the neighbouring village of Bramhall. The 1900s saw an increase in construction of residential houses and commercial developments.
