Roman Roman fort or camp was discovered near Dalton-on-Tees in 2018. The first, of 6ha west of the village, is believed to date from 70AD and is thought to be associated with the Roman conquest of Northern England. The later fort is approaching the size of a legionary fortress and could have accommodated a force of 4,000 men.
