Croydon is a small village and civil parish in South Cambridgeshire. In 1086, about 28 peasants lived at Croydon. The village’s name was spelled Crauudene in the 1086 Domesday Book. It is derived from the Old English crawe and denu, meaning ‘valley of the crows’

Clopton

Clopton was a 30-acre (120,000 m) Anglo-Saxon village in place by the 10th century. It was mentioned in the 1086 Domesday book, when 18 peasants were in residence. The village stood on a prominent ridge and was terraced into the hillside. Archaeological excavations have revealed the former locations of a church, two sites with moats and a probable mill.
