Crofton is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book as Scroftune. The village has one church, the cruciform All Saints’ Church, which dates from the 15th century. It shares an incumbent with the Church of St Peter the Apostle at Kirkthorpe. The mining of coal became important in the 19th century and continued until 1980s.

Heath Hall, Heath, West Yorkshire
