Compton Castle Compton Castle in the parish of Marldon in Devon, is a fortified manor house in the village of Compton (formerly “Compton Pole”), about 5 miles (8 km) west of Torquay. The castle has been home to the Gilbert family for most of the time since it was built. It has been a National Trust property since 1951.

Berry Pomeroy Castle Berry Pomeroy Castle is a Tudor mansion within the walls of an earlier castle. It was built in the late 15th century by the family which had held the land since the 11th century. The castle was abandoned in the 17th century when the fourth baronet moved to Wiltshire. In the 19th century it became celebrated as an example of the “picturesque”, and it became a popular tourist attraction.
