City is 0.75 miles (1.21 km) from the small village of Sarn (which is situated on the A489 road) and is on the slopes up to the Clun Forest and the English border. The hamlet is situated in a small valley, at an elevation of between 210 metres (690 ft) to 230 metres (750 ft) above sea level.

Upper Pengelli is a farm in Kerry in the historic county of Montgomeryshire, which is now part of Powys. The farmhouse is a timber framed house of Lobby entry type probably dating from the earlier part of 17th Century. A gabled wing was added at a right angles to the main house in the mid-19th century.

The Cantlin Stone is a rough stone approximately two feet across with an inscription recording the death of one Willam Cantlin in the place where it is, and the fact that he was buried at the Bettws. It is accompanied by a cross, and is located only twenty or so yards from the Wales–England border.
