Churchill, Oxfordshire history
Churchill was originally at the foot of a hill now called Hastings Hill, but on 31 July 1684 a fire destroyed 20 houses & many other buildings & killed four people. The village was rebuilt higher up the hill, with stone houses instead of timber-framed & thatched cottages. The former Chipping Norton Railway, part of the Great Western Railway, passed near Churchill.

Daylesford House is on the north bank of the River Evenlode near the border with Oxfordshire. It is about 5 miles east of Stow-on-the-Wold and 5 miles west of Chipping Norton. The house has been listed Grade I on the National Heritage List for England since 1960.
